Hakola pattern weaving workshop and design competition

During the recent Helsinki Design Week, new checkered patterns were invented in a paper weaving workshop in Hakola’s Annankatu store. Perso supplied the drinks and Roobertin herkku delicious snacks but there was more.

The designer of the winning pattern will receive a Hakola ottoman upholstered in her/his own pattern. Second and third place will be awarded with a decorative pillow.

Piknik People Studio created the workshop and competition format, marketing materials for social media, and managed the workshop event.

Participants’ designs were compiled on Hakola’s store wall where customers could admire them during the Helsinki Design Week.

The winners were selected by the jury and Annaleena Hakola, CEO of Hakola. She had this to say about the event:

“For our part, we do our best to preserve furniture production and carpentry expertise in Finland. The purpose of these competitions is also to bring out our completely domestic manufacturing. I am really glad that for the first time we can also weave upholstery fabric in Annala weaving mill in Lapua, Finland.”

Hakola is the leader in the design industry, creating future ways of working and new design traditions. The Hakola family has more than 50 years of experience in furniture making. All furniture is still handcrafted in the same factory where Eero Hakola once started operations in 1963. Hakola’s operations are strongly driven by a desire to do things better and more sustainable.
